Description:
(1S,2R)-2-Aminocyclopentanecarboxylic acid is an optically pure compound that can be used in polymerase chemistry. It has been shown to inhibit the polymerase activity of the human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) reverse transcriptase and human papillomavirus type 16 (HPV-16) DNA polymerase. The compound has been purified by chromatographic methods and utilizes mandelic acid as a protecting group for the amino group. The synthesis of this compound has been optimized to produce an enantiomer that is more active than its racemic form. (1S,2R)-2-Aminocyclopentanecarboxylic acid can be synthesized on a large scale at high purity with excellent yield.
