2-Amino-5-iodopyrimidine is a synthetic compound that has been used as a building block in the synthesis of novel heterocyclic compounds. It is an amide derivative of anthranilic acid and can be obtained by reaction with carbon tetrachloride and polydentate amine. 2-Amino-5-iodopyrimidine crystallizes in the monoclinic system with space group P21/c, unit cell parameters: a = 14.898(2) Å, b = 18.892(3) Å, c = 16.945(2) Å, β = 98.097(1)°, V = 1138.0(6) Å3, and Z = 4. The asymmetric synthesis of this compound involves the use of salicyaldehyde as a chiral auxiliary to generate the desired enantiomer from racemic 2-aminopyrimidine
