4-Amylphenol is a compound that fluoresces when illuminated with ultraviolet light. It has been used as a receptor for binding studies, and has shown minimal toxicity in animal studies. 4-Amylphenol has been used to develop monoclonal antibodies against the protein CD22. When this antibody is conjugated with another fluorescent molecule, it can be used to monitor the presence of CD22 on lymphocytes. This method has been successfully applied to detect the presence of CD22 in patients with leukemia or other B cell disorders. 4-Amylphenol is currently being studied as an analytical chemistry tool for determining the chemical structure of fatty acids and other biological molecules.
