2-Amino-4-(trifluoromethyl)benzoic acid (2ATB) is a fluorescent compound that is used in assays to study the function of cells. It is a functional theory that 2ATB binds to the skeleton of cells, which are then subjected to optical properties testing. Fluorescence resonance energy transfer has been shown to occur between 2ATB and retinoic acid molecules in the cell nucleus, which may be related to cellular senescence. The structure of 2ATB has been determined by X-ray crystallography and it has been synthesized by halogenation.
