3-Amino-4-(trifluoromethyl)benzoic acid is a synthetic chemical used as an intermediate in the production of medicines, agrochemicals, and other organic compounds. It is also used to catalyze hydrogenation reactions. 3-Amino-4-(trifluoromethyl)benzoic acid can be obtained from the reaction of ammonium chloride with sodium sulfide. It has acidic properties and can be nitrated to form 3-nitrobenzotrifluoride. The chloride ion present in this compound may be replaced by a sulfide ion to form 3-aminobenzotrifluoride or a halogen such as bromine or iodine to form 3-bromo-, 3-iodo-, or 3-chlorobenzoic acid.
