4-Amidinopyridinium chloride is a proton conductor that is used in thermogravimetric analysis, diffraction, and efficiency. The compound adsorbs to the surface of 4-aminopyridine and has an intercalated structure. It can be prepared by reacting 4-chloro-N,N'-dimethylaniline with NHCl in the presence of a proton exchange resin. The compound exhibits proton conductivity at room temperature, which increases when heated. 4-Amidinopyridinium chloride also has a spectrum that consists of two peaks at 1450 cm-1 and 1600 cm-1. This chemical's x-ray crystallography was studied using anhydrous conditions with an x-ray technique called "powder diffraction."
