Beta-Homochelidonine is a bioactive phytochemical that is found in the seeds of the plant, Homochelidon vernicosa. Beta-Homochelidonine has been shown to have a variety of biological properties, including anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and antiparasitic effects. It also has an inhibitory effect on matrix metalloproteinases and proteases. The surface methodology for beta-homochelidonine was studied using protopine as a model molecule. This study revealed that beta-homochelidonine binds to protein targets on the cell membrane and inhibits their activity, leading to inhibition of infectious diseases such as malaria.
