2-(2-Adamantanyl)ethylamine hydrochloride is a crystalline solid with an empirical formula of C20H36N2O. It is soluble in ether and slightly soluble in water. The compound was analyzed by X-ray diffraction, which showed that it belongs to the monoclinic crystal system with space group P21/c and lattice constants a = 9.037 Å, b = 7.874 Å, c = 12.355 Å, α = 90°, β = 104°, γ = 90° at room temperature. 2-(2-Adamantanyl)ethylamine hydrochloride has been shown to react photochemically with phthalimide to form a phthalimide derivative with a carbonyl group on the carbon adjacent to the amine nitrogen atom.
