- Benzenemethanol, 2-Amino-4-Nitro-
2-Amino-4-nitrobenzyl alcohol is a reactive aminophenol that is metabolized by the liver to 2-aminobenzyl alcohol and 4-nitrobenzyl alcohol. The nitro group on the molecule makes it carcinogenic, and it has been shown to cause tumors in the ovaries of female mice. 2-Amino-4-nitrobenzyl alcohol is also mutagenic and can cause mutations in microorganisms like typhimurium and E. coli. It has been shown to inhibit cytochrome P450 activity as well as glucuronide conjugation, which may be due to its chemical structure.
2 amino 4 nitrobenzyl alcohol has been used in assays for chromatography with cannulas that are inserted into test tubes containing solutions of the molecule being tested for reactivity.
