Description:
5-Acetyl-2-benzyloxymethylsalicylate is a brominating agent that is used as a catalyst in the synthesis of benzyl benzoate. It can also be used as a solvent for resins and dyes. This compound reacts with benzyl chloride to form 5-acetyl-2-benzyloxymethylsalicylate, which can then react with an acid to form benzyl benzoate. The brominating agent in this reaction is bromine or an alkali metal bromide.
