Product Information
(3R)-3-Aminooxolan-2-one is a hydroxamic acid that is used as an inhibitor of the β-glucosidase enzyme. It has been shown to inhibit growth of cells in culture when at concentrations between 10μM and 100μM. The compound is also effective against a range of other protein targets, including the mammalian cell and β-hexosaminidase. The amino group makes it suitable for hydrogen bonding with the protein target and the carbonyl group allows for its binding to metal ions. Hydroxamic acids are synthesized from carboxylic acids by reaction with ammonia and hydrogen peroxide in acidic conditions. This process leads to substitution of the oxygen atom with a hydroxyl group on carbon 2 of the carboxylic acid.
