4-Amino-3,5-dichloro-2,6-difluoropyridine (4ADCF) is an intermediate in the synthesis of fluorinated pyridines. It is synthesized by reacting triethyl amine with ammonium chloride in the presence of benzyl chloride. The reaction is carried out at optimum conditions at a temperature of 150 °C for 8 hours. The reaction time and temperature are influential on the yield of 4ADCF. Ammonium chloride is used as a base catalyst for the reaction and must be anhydrous to prevent any side reactions that would result in the formation of 4-amino-3,5-dichloropyridine instead. The final product is purified by fractional distillation under high temperature.
