2-Amino-5-bromobenzothiazole (2ABB) is a molecule that belongs to the group of biological molecules. It has been shown to inhibit voltage-gated sodium channels by binding to the outer membrane of the channel and blocking its activation. This leads to an increased duration of the action potential and prolongs the refractory period, which results in arrhythmias. 2ABB has been used as a pharmacological tool in research with prokaryotic cells and biophysical techniques. 2ABB has also been shown to be an antiarrhythmic drug candidate when it was tested on rats with induced arrhythmias.
