N-Acetylphthalimide is a nucleophilic amide that can activate carbinols. It has been shown to be soluble in chloroform, benzene, and acetone. N-Acetylphthalimide displays fluorescence under ultraviolet light. The activation energy for the reaction of N-acetylphthalimide with chloride is at least 93 kJ/mol. This molecule has been shown to react with peroxide, forming a crystalline product of phthalic anhydride. Carbonyl groups are present in this molecule as well as chlorine atoms and hydroxyl groups. This makes it possible for N-acetylphthalimide to form hydrogen bonds with water molecules.br>br>
N-Acetylphthalimide is used in the production of polymers such as polyester fabrics and plastics.br>br>
N-Acetylphthalimide is also used in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals such as antihy
