2-Amino-N-(2-chloro-6-methylphenyl)thiazole-5-carboxamide (TZL) is a white solid with a molecular weight of 287.4 g/mol. It has an acidic nature and a melting point of about 170°C. TZL is used in the treatment of cancer, specifically leukemia, and is also used to treat other diseases such as malaria. TZL inhibits the growth of cancer cells by inhibiting the production of proteins vital for cell division. TZL binds to copper ions in the presence of chloride ions, forming a complex that prevents DNA synthesis, leading to cell death. The salt form of TZL is more soluble in water than the dihydrate form and can be used as an agricultural fungicide on plants such as potatoes and tomatoes.
