Synonyms:
  • 4H-1,2,4-Triazole-3-thiol, 4-amino-
Description:

4-Amino-4H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiol (ACT) is a carbon disulphide analog that exhibits antimicrobial activity against Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Cryptococcus neoformans, and other fungi. ACT binds to single-stranded DNA and prevents the synthesis of RNA. It also has been shown to inhibit the replication of retroviruses such as HIV. The quinoline derivatives that are used in the synthesis of ACT have been shown to be mutagenic. ACT has also been shown to be active against bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis. The activation energies for this compound are β-unsaturated ketones.
