Ammonium Fluoroacetate is an organic solvent that is used for the synthesis of fluoroacetic acid and its derivatives. It has been shown to be effective in the treatment of chronic pain, inflammatory pain, and diabetic neuropathy. Ammonium Fluoroacetate binds to amines and forms metal chelate complexes that are thought to inhibit the activity of enzymes that cause pain by blocking the production of prostaglandins. The structural formula for ammonium fluoroacetate is NH2C(O)FCH2CO2H. Palicourea is a plant-derived alkaloid which has been found to have a similar structure and effect as ammonium fluoroacetate, but with fewer side effects.
