Product Information
2-Amino-3-fluoroheptanoic acid is a chiral compound that has two enantiomers. It can be used as a substrate in the synthesis of various amino acids and as an intermediate in the production of pharmaceuticals such as antibiotics. 2-Amino-3-fluoroheptanoic acid is synthesized from 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol and diethyl chlorophosphate by an asymmetric addition of hydrogen cyanide to the carbonyl group. The resulting diastereoisomer can be separated by chromatography or gas chromatography to produce one enantiomer. This process can be repeated until the desired amount of each enantiomer is obtained.
2-Amino-3-fluoroheptanoic acid also serves as a catalyst for the synthesis of racemic erythro and racemic difluoro compounds from trifluoromethyl ketones.
