Ammonium perfluorooctylsulfonate is an organic solvent that is used in the production of polymers and textiles. This compound is commonly used as a reaction vessel for organic syntheses, such as esterification, etherification, and saponification. Ammonium perfluorooctylsulfonate has been shown to be an acidic, radiation-resistant cationic surfactant with a chloride counterion. It can react with methanol to form hydrogen fluoride and fatty acid. Ammonium perfluorooctylsulfonate also forms hydroxyl groups when heated with hydrochloric acid at high temperatures.
