Description:

2-Amino-4,4,4-trifluorobutyric acid is a non-natural amino acid that has been synthetically prepared. It undergoes thermal denaturation at high temperatures and can be used as a model for the study of protein denaturation. This compound has three fluorine atoms that are incorporated into the molecule via nucleophilic substitution reaction with chlorotrimethylsilane. 2-Amino-4,4,4-trifluorobutyric acid also contains a trifluoromethyl group on its side chain. The asymmetric synthesis of this molecule was achieved by ammonolysis of 2,2,2-trifluoroacetophenone with ammonium chloride in water followed by preparative chromatography.
