Product Information
- Cyclobutanecarboxylic acid, 1-amino-3-fluoro-, trans- (9CI)
trans-1-Amino-3-fluorocyclobutanecarboxylic acid (3FAC) is a positron emission tomography (PET) imaging agent that is used in the diagnosis of prostate cancer. 3FAC is taken up by prostate cancer cells and accumulates in the tumor. It can be detected by PET scans at a dose of 20 mCi, which may be administered intravenously or orally. The uptake of 3FAC has been shown to be increased in prostate cancer cells over normal cells. This drug has been shown to have no effect on glucose metabolism and does not cause any adverse side effects for patients with diabetes. 3FAC also has an affinity for polymerase chain reaction (PCR) primers, which allows it to inhibit DNA synthesis in tumors and prevent further tumor growth.
