It has been shown to have biological activity with a variety of heterocycles, including pyrrolidine, which has been shown to be medicinally active. This compound is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of 3-(2,5-dimethoxybenzylidene)indole (XVIII), an inhibitor of protein kinase C.
