4-(1-Pyrrolidinyl)piperidine is a ligand that binds to the dimer interface of the ribonuclease A molecule. It has been shown to inhibit RNA replication in vitro, and can be used as a potential treatment for human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1). 4-(1-Pyrrolidinyl)piperidine binds to a lysine residue of ribonuclease A, and prevents it from cleaving the RNA strand. This potent inhibition can be scaled up for use in drug development. 4-(1-Pyrrolidinyl)piperidine is also effective against HIV-2 and SIV.
