3-Hydroxythiophene-2-carboxylic acid is an organic compound that belongs to the group of natural products. It is a dehydrating agent and has been used in pharmaceutical preparations, including as an intermediate for the synthesis of other molecules. 3-Hydroxythiophene-2-carboxylic acid is also useful for adsorbing organic impurities from pharmaceutical preparations. This product can be synthesized from piperidine and acetone, yielding high yields. The molecule has a five membered ring with two double bonds and two hydroxyl groups. 3-Hydroxythiophene-2-carboxylic acid can be used at temperatures up to 150°C and as a diketone.
