Description:

2-Methylpiperidine hydrochloride is a cholinergic agent that has been shown to bind to muscarinic receptors, inhibiting the release of acetylcholine. It has been shown to have tuberculostatic activity in vitro and in vivo. 2-Methylpiperidine hydrochloride has also been shown to be a substrate molecule for the enzyme l-tartaric acid. The reaction mechanism is thought to be an SN2 displacement with water as the leaving group, which would produce an enolate intermediate and diol product. The kinetic data for this reaction are consistent with this mechanism.
