Hydroxyl-terminated polydimethylsiloxane (HMDI) is a glycol ether that is used as a polymerization catalyst. It has been shown to be chemically stable and does not react with biological molecules, such as antibodies or cells. HMDI can also be used for the synthesis of polyurethanes and fatty acids. The reaction mechanism of HMDI involves the formation of a hydroxyl group from two molecules of water, which is then hydrogenated to form hydrogen fluoride. This product can be made by reacting diisocyanates with an alcohol and a fatty acid.
