Description

Dihydroisolysergic acid methyl ester is a drug that is used in the treatment of chronic pain, including neuropathic pain. It is a prodrug that is metabolized to dihydroisolysergic acid and its active form, L-3,4-dihydroxy-5-methoxy-phenylalanine (L-DOPA). The mechanism of action involves the inhibition of dopamine reuptake in dopaminergic neurons and the activation of dopamine receptors. This drug binds to c1-4 alkyl radicals and causes their degradation. Dihydroisolysergic acid methyl ester has been shown to cause a decrease in serum prolactin levels in human subjects.
