Product Information
6-Phenyl-2H-pyran-4(3H)-one is a c1-c4 alkynyl that has been used as an herbicide. It inhibits the growth of plants by binding to the plant's photosynthetic system and blocking electron transport. This compound also reacts with hydroquinone, an enzyme that is involved in the production of alkoxy radicals, which are important for plant growth. Magnesium can be added to this reaction to form magnesium enolate. The groundnut, c1-4 alkyl, alkylene, and alkenyl are all susceptible to 6-phenyl-2H-pyran-4(3H)-one because it binds to their photosynthetic systems and blocks electron transport.
