N,N-Dimethyl-2-pyrazinamine is a conjugate that is transported by the organic anion transporter OATP1B1. It is used in the treatment of infantile eczema and has been shown to be effective in treating autoimmune diseases. N,N-Dimethyl-2-pyrazinamine has also been shown to decrease serotonin levels, which may be due to its ability to inhibit fatty acid synthase and reduce the production of polymeric matrix. It is also used as a diagnostic agent in bacterial vaginosis. N,N-Dimethyl-2-pyrazinamine inhibits the synthesis of fatty acids by competitive inhibition with other substrates for the enzyme acyl coenzyme A: lysophosphatidic acid acyltransferase (ACAT).
