- Cyclopentanecarboxamide, 1-phenyl-
1-Phenyl-cyclopentanecarboxylic acid amide is a hydroxamic acid that inhibits the activity of metalloproteinases, enzymes that are involved in the degradation of collagen. It is an analogue of benzylhydroxamate, which has been shown to exhibit antiinflammatory and antitumor activities. 1-Phenyl-cyclopentanecarboxylic acid amide has been shown to inhibit tumor necrosis factor (TNF) as well as to have a strong inhibitory effect on matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) activity. This drug also inhibits histone deacetylase, which results in increased expression of genes encoding for proteins involved in bone remodeling and cell proliferation. 1-Phenyl-cyclopentanecarboxylic acid amide is chemically similar to benzylhydroxamate and can be used as a prodrug for benzylhydroxamate.
