Product Information
The synthesis of Diethyl 2-allyl-2-(2-methylallyl)malonate is a two step process. In the first step, an allyl group is attached to a phenyl group. This can be done by reacting the phenyl group with an allyl halide or allyl alcohol. The second step is to add the methylpropiolate group to the alkene in a metathesis reaction. This can be done by adding diethyl malonate and 1,3-dibromopropane in the presence of a ruthenium complex, which is a ligand that has no effect on this reaction, but stabilizes the intermediate. This process occurs at temperatures between -60°C and 40°C and is stereoselective.
