Butyl Dichloromethyl Ether (BDME) is an organic solvent that can be used in pharmaceutical preparations. It is a colorless liquid with a pungent odor and boiling point of -4°C. BDME is soluble in water, alcohols, ethers, acetone, and chloroform. BDME reacts with nitro, oxime derivatives and chloride to form alkylating agents. It has been shown to cause bone resorption and formylation reactions in laboratory animals.
