Description:
2-(Butylthio)ethanol is an organosulfur compound that is used as a reagent in organic synthesis. It can be used to catalyze the reaction of hydrochloric acid with alkoxy groups and nucleophilic groups to form chlorides. 2-(Butylthio)ethanol also reacts with hydroxyl groups or alcohols to produce thiols or sulfonic acids, respectively. 2-(Butylthio)ethanol has a high selectivity for chlorine atoms over other elements, such as oxygen and nitrogen, due to its high affinity for hydrogen bonding. This product is anhydrous at room temperature and does not contain any water molecules in its chemical formula.
2-(Butylthio)ethanol is colorless liquid at room temperature and has a strong odor of sulfur.
