- Boric acid tri-n-hexyl ester
- Hexyl orthoborate
- NSC 781
Trihexyl borate is a glycol ester with three hydroxyl groups. Trihexyl borate is used for the production of polycarbonates, which are plastics that are resistant to heat and solvents. It can be used in the production of other products, such as viscosity modifiers, reaction products, and carboxylate esters. The chemical structures of trihexyl borate are similar to those of malic acid and fatty acids. Malic acid is found in fruits such as apples and grapes while fatty acids are found in animal fats or oils. Trihexyl borate also contains a molecule with a microalgal origin that has been modified by an alkylthio group. This molecule has a carbonyl group on one end and an alkylthio group on the other end.
