1-[4-(dimethylamino)phenyl]ethan-1-ol is an organic compound with a molecular formula of C8H14N2O. It is a sterically, mechanistically, and stereoselectively optimized molecule that reacts with aldehydes to form the corresponding alcohols in high yields. The 1-[4-(dimethylamino)phenyl]ethan-1-ol has been shown to react with ketones to form the corresponding quinones in good yields. It can also be used for reductive amination reactions, such as the synthesis of flavanones, and alcohols from toluene.
