Bis(2,3-dibromopropyl) phosphate is a chemical that has been shown to be genotoxic in vitro and in vivo. It has been shown to cause proximal tubular cell injury and testicular toxicity in animals. The uptake of bis(2,3-dibromopropyl) phosphate was found to be related to the glomerular filtration rate (GFR). Bis(2,3-dibromopropyl) phosphate is also reactive with magnesium salts and p-nitrophenyl phosphate. It was found to have a low level of toxicity in rats when administered intravenously or intraperitoneally. This chemical showed no adverse effects on liver cells when administered orally.
Bis(2,3-dibromopropyl) phosphate is metabolized by debromination and deuterium isotope studies show that it undergoes phase II metabolism by rat liver microsomes.
