2-Methoxychalcone is an epoxide that has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties and to inhibit the growth of cancer cells. 2-Methoxychalcone inhibits protein synthesis in prostate cancer cells by binding to the receptor protein. This binding leads to the inhibition of signal pathways, which are used by the cell for communication. The glycyrrhiza species from which this compound is derived has been shown to have antiviral properties against herpes simplex virus, as well as potent anti-inflammatory effects on bowel disease in humans.
