5-(3,4-Dimethoxy-phenyl)-[1,3,4]thiadiazol-2-yl-amine is a potent anti-inflammatory agent that acts by inhibiting the synthesis of prostaglandins. It is used in the treatment of inflammatory conditions such as asthma and arthritis. 5-(3,4-Dimethoxy-phenyl)-[1,3,4]thiadiazol-2-yl-amine inhibits the production of prostaglandin E2 by blocking its release from cells or by inhibiting cyclooxygenase. This drug also has an inhibitory effect on leukotriene B4 and thromboxane A2 production. 5-(3,4-Dimethoxy-phenyl)-[1,3,4]thiadiazol-2-yl-amine can react with chlorides to form alkyl iodides.
