1-Butylcyclohexanol is a chemical that belongs to the class of aromatic hydrocarbons. It has been shown to have selective monoamine reuptake inhibition, specifically serotonin and dopamine uptake. 1-Butylcyclohexanol has also been shown to have a protective effect in diabetic neuropathy by reducing the reuptake of these two neurotransmitters. 1-Butylcyclohexanol can be synthesized from hydrogen chloride and monomolecular chlorine in deionized water, which reacts with an aromatic hydrocarbon such as phenol or benzene (chemical structures). The cyclohexane ring is then hydrogenated with palladium on carbon (hydroxyl group).
