Description:

Methyl 6-nitro-1,2-benzisoxazole-3-carboxylate is a stabilizer that can be used to prevent the polymerization of styrene. Methyl 6-nitro-1,2-benzisoxazole-3-carboxylate has been shown to stabilize linear polymers by blocking free radicals and increasing the kinetic stability of the polymer. This stabilizer is soluble in chloroform but insoluble in water and organic solvents. The most common use for methyl 6-nitro-1,2-benzisoxazole-3-carboxylate is as a molecular probe for studying microenvironments such as those found on a surface or in an emulsion. It has also been shown to have hypsochromic properties which can be used for measuring the degree of stabilization.
