Ethyl 3-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)propionate is a naturally occurring organic compound that has been isolated from birch leaves. It can be synthesized by the demethylation of ethyl 3-methoxyacrylate or by hydrogenolysis of methyl 3,4-dimethoxyphenylacetate. The bromomethyl ether and sulfate ester are the main metabolites in rats. Other metabolites include dehydrated alcohols, chlorides, ferulates, and carboxylic acids. This product is used for the manufacture of pharmaceuticals.
