Dinitrodurene is a trifluoroacetic acid derivative that has been used as a viscosity modifier, matrix polymer, and anion-exchange resin. It is soluble in organic solvents such as dichloromethane and chloroform. Dinitrodurene can be polymerized to form poly(trifluoroacetic acid), which has applications in the manufacture of radiation-sensitive materials. Dinitrodurene is also used as a polymerization inhibitor to prevent the formation of polymers from monomers during copolymerization reactions. The redox potential of dinitrodurene is -0.165 V at pH 7, which makes it a good reductant for electrochemical applications.
