Buquinolate is a drug that binds to the bacterial cell wall in a concentration-dependent manner. The inhibitory effect of buquinolate on tenella cells has been demonstrated using a chromatographic method. Buquinolate has also been shown to have clinical relevance and drug dosage in humans, as it can be used to treat chronic or recurrent urinary tract infections. Buquinolate is an analog of salinomycin sodium, which inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding with fatty acid carriers in the cytoplasmic membrane. It prevents the uptake of nutrients such as fatty acids and lipids into the cell, leading to its death. Buquinolate also inhibits mitochondrial function by blocking fatty acid oxidation pathways.
