Betamethasone-17-butyrate-21-propionate is a synthetic corticosteroid that is used for the treatment of autoimmune diseases and cancer. It inhibits the production of inflammatory substances such as cytokines and prostaglandins. Betamethasone-17-butyrate-21-propionate has been shown to inhibit tumor growth by suppressing the production of IL1, IL2, IL6, TNFα, and IFNγ. This drug also has anti-inflammatory properties that are due to its ability to inhibit immune reactions, particularly allergic reactions. Betamethasone-17-butyrate-21-propionate has been shown to be effective in treating bowel disease (e.g., ulcerative colitis) and inflammatory bowel disease (e.g., Crohn's Disease).
