11-Eicosenoic acid is a fatty acid that is used as an antimicrobial agent. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria, yeast and fungi. 11-Eicosenoic acid has been found to be effective in the treatment of autoimmune diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease. This compound also helps regulate energy metabolism by inhibiting the production of glucose from fatty acids and increasing the oxidation of fat for energy production. 11-Eicosenoic acid may be used as an analytical method for fatty acids and polyunsaturated surface methodology.
