4-Hydroxy-2H-benzo[h]chromen-2-one is a chemical compound that is not yet approved for use in humans. It has shown potential as an anti-cancer agent in preclinical studies with tumor cell lines and cancer cells. The mechanism of action of this drug is not well understood, but it has been shown to generate reactive oxygen species and inhibit the growth of cancer cells by oxidative cyclization. 4-Hydroxy-2H-benzo[h]chromen-2-one also inhibits the activity of DNA polymerase and RNA polymerase, which are enzymes necessary for the synthesis of DNA and RNA, respectively. It also inhibits cell proliferation in human cancer cell lines at micromolar concentrations.
