Product Information
2,3-Dimethyl-4-methoxybenzoic acid (DMMB) is a potent inhibitor of human 17β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 5 (17β-HSD5), an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone. The inhibition of this enzyme results in a decrease in the production of dihydrotestosterone and thus reduced levels of androgens. DMMB has been shown to be synergistic with other inhibitors such as ketoconazole, finasteride, and erythromycin. The ternary complex DMMB-ketoconazole-esterase was found to be more potent than any individual component alone.
DMMB is used in the synthesis of some steroids, including dexamethasone.
