Product Information

Name:
Cyclopentylmalonic acid
Synonyms:
  • Cyclopentyl Malonic Acid
  • Cyclopentylpropanedioic Acid
Description:

Cyclopentylmalonic acid is an organic compound that has been used as a matrix metalloproteinase inhibitor. It is a white, odorless solid with a melting point of approximately 170°C. Cyclopentylmalonic acid belongs to the amide class and has a hydroxy group, which can be converted to an ester by reaction with sulfuric acid. It also reacts with aliphatic hydrocarbons, such as hexane and heptane, at elevated temperatures. Cyclopentylmalonic acid is used as a heat-resistant matrix metalloproteinase inhibitor in electrophotographic processes. The alkynyl group on the molecule can be oxidized by thiourea to form an aromatic hydrocarbon. This process allows for specific treatment of matrix metalloproteinase-mediated diseases or disorders.
