Oct-2-ynoic acid is a fatty acid that is found in the human body. It has been shown to be an inhibitor of toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) and ctla-4, which are important for the immune system. Oct-2-ynoic acid has been shown to inhibit an antibody response in vivo, which may lead to autoimmune diseases. The molecule also has antimicrobial activity against bacteria such as mycobacterium tuberculosis, mycobacterium avium complex, and hepatitis C virus. Clinical studies have shown that octanoic acid can reduce disease activity in patients with primary sclerosing cholangitis or chronic hepatitis C infection.
