Product Information
2-Amino-3-(benzylsulfanyl)propanoic acid is a cell-culture derived drug that is used for the treatment of bacterial infections. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria in vitro by binding to acetylated lysine residues on the bacterial cell wall and preventing the formation of new peptidoglycan. It also binds to d-alanine and hippuric acid in urine, which are metabolites from the degradation of amino acids. 2-Amino-3-(benzylsulfanyl)propanoic acid can be synthesized by reacting benzene with chlorosulfonic acid, which produces a mixture of sulfonates. The sulfonates are then hydrolyzed to produce 2-amino-3-(benzylsulfanyl)propanoic acid. The hydrogen fluoride acts as a catalyst in this process.
